How to use this calculator

  1. 1

Enter your cost per item in your chosen currency.

  2. 2

Enter the percentage you want to add to that cost.

  3. 3

Calculate the selling price and check the resulting margin before setting your price.

The formula, without the guesswork.

Selling price = cost + (cost × markup ÷ 100)

A worked example

Adding a 25% markup to a cost of 80 adds 20, giving a selling price of 100 and a gross margin of 20%.

A few things worth knowing

Does a 25% markup mean a 25% margin?

No. Markup is a percentage of cost, while margin is a percentage of selling price. Adding 25% to a cost of 80 gives a price of 100 and a margin of 20%.

Can I use a zero markup?

Yes. A zero markup sets the selling price equal to cost. It produces no gross profit to cover any additional overheads.

Are tax and payment fees included?

No extra taxes or fees are added automatically. Include relevant per-item costs in your input and compare cost and price on the same tax basis.
